On December 11th I will be doing a painting class at Michaels In Orange for the children of the Anaheim Interfaith Shelter, Halcyon. This is a transitional living facility geared towards families. It is a strict program with a high success rate in assisting families in becoming self-sufficient. The people that live there need to have a job and have to save 80% of their money toward getting settled into a home of their own so they do not have much in the way of extra funds.

I was approached by a long time friend, Keith Olesen who wanted to seek donations and raise money to pay for the kids from this shelter to go to one of my painting classes. The idea was to provide them with a fun learning activity/event and with Christmas coming up they could use whatever they paint as a Christmas present for their parents or friends. I thought this was a great opportunity and cause to pursue so Store manager Jeremy Graves, Keith Olesen and myself got together and arranged a class.
There will be 15 young people plus a possibility of 5 more from elsewhere. I have put together a supply list which is more than is actually needed. Our thinking was to provide the participants something they could take with them so that they could pursue painting further should they so desire. Given the current cuts to art programs in the school system this is an opportunity we felt that these particular young people would not otherwise enjoy. This is not so much a charity as a sponsorship. I would like to explore the possibility of seeking sponsorships for an additional 1 month of classes for those who would like to continue.
Please keep in mind that the Anaheim Interfaith Shelter/Halcyonis always in need of donations to fund it's operationsand keep their programs running.

For Groups, organization and clubs

I thought about this from watching the parties in the Michaels classrooms and from the various painting events I have done which have all been quite fun. What could be better than a paint party? It would still be a class, but with people you know or were associated with, even with the collaborative painting events.
So should anyone be interested in having an group art experience just let me know.

Huntington Beach Painting Class

A Student at Michaels in Huntington Beach brought in this picture she wanted to paint. The original, the one on the left, was painted by her Grandmother a hundred years ago. It was not protected and was damaged over the years and dirty. She has been working on it for the last few weeks. She finished it today and we then took it over to the framers so they could both share a new frame.

Painting Class

I decided I would use this space to put more in depth comments on painting and my Painting Classes.
I have been painting for a lot of years. It is not my hobby, it is my profession. It is also my passion and I never tire of it. It has been my joy to share that passion with others through the classes I teach and I find I look forward to continue doing so.
